How to Partecipate
Step 1: Choose a Book
Select a new book that hasn't already been reviewed by our community.
We offer reimbursement of up to $30 per book after you share at the Book Tasting. Remember to keep your receipt!
To make sure the book you select has not already been reviewed, you can review what books are already in our elementary and secondary database.
Step 2: Reflect on Your Book
Consider how the book represents diversity, inclusion, French-speaking cultures, and different perspectives. Think about how it could engage students in your classroom.
Step 3: Complete the Debrief Form
Before the event, complete the Book Tasting Debrief Form to share your reflections.
Step 4: Join the Book Tasting!
Connect with fellow FSL educators, exchange ideas, and discover new books to bring into your classroom.
To help you with your professional evaluation of the book, you can review some of the resources that we have put together over the years to help you:
Consciousness-raising resources including professional development book recommendations, workshop slides and posters
Understanding the importance of Seeking Joy in Texts including a brief summary, posters, and English-language videos for elementary and secondary teachers with examples!
Reviewing new novels
Is it time to update your bookshelves with novels that are culturally relevant and responsive? Novels are a great place to begin thinking critically about your pedagogy as an anti-racist teacher. FSLdisrupt is proud to host a number of potential novels that secondary FSL teachers can use in their Core, Extended, and Immersion classes. In an effort to grow our suggested novels list we would like your recommendations and reviews! Take part by reading a book and sharing your review on its appropriateness with fellow FSL teachers in this sharing session.
